Myanmar Students in Salisbury University

It was a while ago that I found out that I am not the first Myanmar student in Salisbury University. There was one Myanmar student in 2001. I did not know if that puzzle is a boy or a girl, who he or she is, if he or she finished school or not. It was a puzzle for me. But today everything was solved. He is a friend of my girlfriend. He went to Salisbury University for only one academic year.
There was one more surprise yesterday. It is kind of more current one. There is one more Myanmar student in Salisbury University now. Again, I don't know what she is studying here. I just made some contact with her through facebook. Well, thanks to facebook . I got all those contact about Myanmar Student in SU through facebook. Anyway, it is good to know that another student from my country is studying here.

Capitalism

In this semester, I am taking a class named External Environment of Organization. In fact, it is pretty much about Capitalism. Honestly, I did not have much interest in it before but after sitting in class for about a month. I am kind of getting into that subject. I begin realize the beauty of capitalism. Finally I decide to share what I am learning about Capitalism every week.
According to Andrew Bernstein "Capitalism is a social system based on the recognition of individual rights, including property rights, in which all property is privately owned."
For simplicity, Capitalism says every one has the right to work and gain the fruit of their hard works as long as no other people individual rights are harmed. Men have the rights to create their own businesses. They have the right to gain the achievement of their businesses.

Getting Sick of Ticket

This is the third time I got ticket in USA within 8 months that I got here. Fortunately, there was no fine on the citation. It was just warning.
Ok, let me explain why I got this stupid ticket. There was a parking lot that I always park my car. It was normally free to park for those who work there. Definitely, I am one of the people who work there. But I don't know why university police changed his mine and started to check parking permit at that lot. Thats the start of my nightmare because I don't have parking permit to park there. Well, even if I had parking permit, I wouldn't be able to park there because that parking lot is only for faculty and staff.
I don't know where I am gonna park in the future. I don't want to pay for parking permit too. Thats suck. Better take free school shelter bus starting from tomorrow. :-(

First Presentation

Today I had my first presentation in front of other people for the first time in USA. I was kind of lacking confidence. Thanks to my team. They are really good to me. Nobody complained me about my presentation. I know that I did not do well. Since English is not my first language, it is kind of hard for me to do presentation. What a pity to me...I speak three languages and I am not master at none of them. Ok..Myanmar is my first language. So I am doing pretty good at there. But my Thai and English are not really good. Anyway, kind of tired now. Better go to bed..
By the way this is my first experience as a Myanmar student doing presentation in front of other native speakers.

LG's Prada

This small widget is a new cell phone manufactured by LG. To me, it looks really cool. I am pretty much sure it will become direct competitor of Apple's iPhone. As far as I heard from people, iPhone is kind of failure product. It could not meet the customers' expectation. In order words, iPhone was overrated. I don't know what will happen with this new widget; LG's Prada.
Below is the article I got about this new attractive widget:

" Check it Apple, LG just went official with their iPhone look-a-like LG KE850 Prada phone which they proudly tout as the world's "first completely touch screen mobile phone." Er, unless you consider the ones from Motorola, HTC, and others. Still, this is more than likely a dig at the iPhone which they can rightly make since the KE850 will hit select mobile shops and PRADA stores in the UK, France, Germany and Italy at the end of February and parts of Asia before March is through. Sadly, the KE850 is a non starter for the US market since this version is limited to tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 with EDGE data. It's smaller than its fruity peer at just 98.8 x 54 x 12-mm resulting in a more compact, 3.0-inch display presumably with that 240 x 400 resolution we heard about earlier. In case you're keeping track (and we know you are), the iPhone goes quad-band GSM with EDGE and WiFi in a 115 x 61 x 11.6-mm shell sporting a 3.5-inch, 320 x 480 display. Also, the KE850 seems to lack any significant on-board storage opting instead for microSD to boost capacity. Like the iPhone, it packs a 2 megapixel camera (with Schneider-Kreuznach lens and LED flash) and Bluetooth 2.0. However, there's no mention of multi-touch capabilities, an on-screen keyboard, or the accelerometer and proximity sensors found on the iPhone. The KE850 PRADA's UI is Macromedia Flash-based and opts for a minimalist, white-on-black display as opposed to the more, shall we say, OS Xish GUI we've already seen floated. Feature-wise, the KE850 comes with a video player supporting MPEG-4, H.264, and oddly, H.263 normally used for video conferencing; a document viewer supporting Microsoft's PPT, DOC, XLS formats, PDF and TXT; an audio player with support for MP3/ACC/ACC+/WMA/RA formats; and a "music multitasking function for messaging," whatever that is. How much? €600/$778... that's how much. Still, a compelling choice for those who can't wait for the iPhone's Q4 European introduction or 2008 Asia launch. "

Assessment should be applied in Myanmar

Today, I got a meeting to attend at Charles County, Maryland. It is about 3 hours drive from my place. The meeting actually started at 1:30 but we had to leave around 8:30 to prepare everything for the meeting. This is the first time that I attend 100 people meeting in USA. It is really cool. I did not even have a chance to attend that kind of meeting when I was in Myanmar.
The meeting is about "Needs Assessment for Tri-County Region". Tri-County region include St. Mary County, Charles County, and Calvert County. Basically what we present is comparing different kind of needs in those areas. And presented the area that we need to allocate resource. It is kind of interesting. Hopefully I can apply it in Myanmar one day. We need to improve several things in Myanmar. By doing "Needs Assessment", we will be able to allocate the needs that we need to improve as priority.
Well, I just want to share this new experience to other Myanmar around the world. If someone want to know about "Needs Assessment" feel free to comment on my blog. I will post detail about the procedure.

After finishing second week of new semester, I am getting a little bit more settle down with my current messy. Of course, life is still busy. Even some stuffs are really boring to me, I tried my best to find the best way to overcome them. Finally I found it. I try to like what I am doing. So I try to think about it in positive way. Then things are getting fun to me. I also change my time management style. So that I can finish everything on time.
The only way to get settle with busy life style is "try to fall in love with what we are doing". Then the result will "you are busy but you are happy".

Myanmar National Football Team in Merdeka Cup

It has been along time that I am thinking to write blog about Myanmar National Football Team. But I never got a chance to implement my plan since I was so busy with other stuffs.
Before writing more about Myanmar National Football Team in this particular tournament. Let me first briefly explain about the competition. The competition was held in Malaysia. Merdeka day means independent day in Malaysia. So its a football match held for independence day of Malaysia. Let me get back to post about Myanmar National Football Team. Myanmar National Football Team was one of the seven countries who were invited to participate in this tournament. Myanmar National Team was the champion of this tournament in the last competition. As a defending champion, Myanmar National Football Team had to play games under pressure. Year 2006 was not the only time that Myanmar National Football Team got champion. Including year 2006, Myanmar National Football Team got Merdeka Cup Champion for four times.
Well, let me brief you Myanmar Team in this tournament. Myanmar Team won all group stage match including the match against host; Malaysia. According to some fans who got a chance to watch games, Myanmar Team has improved a lot under new manager who is from Brazil. Surprising, several of youth players were nominated for Myanmar National Team in this tournament. In fact, its not that surprising because Myanmar youths were nominated for National Team quite often in the past few years.
Well, I was hoping Myanmar to defend their title but they were unable to manage it under pressure host crowd and weak referee. In general, Myanmar National Team did pretty well in this competition and I really hope they will be able to maintain their improvement. So that the dream of all Myanamr Football Fan, to be the winner major regional tournament, will come to true in the near future.

Weekend Plan

So far, I have finished the first week of my new semester. Seem like my new semester will be a busier semester for me. Hopefully, I can still update my thought, and experiences as a Myanmar Student in Abroad to other Myanmar Student around the world. What do I have to do this weekend? Basically, I have to finish reading 7 chapters and 4 articles for three courses I am taking. One of the class is pretty much interesting to me. Its about Capitalism. It is about why Capitalism is the most successful economic system in the history of mankind. This is pretty much in brief about this class. If I get a chance, I will upload more about my view on that class in my later post in Myanmar Student in Abroad blog to share other Myanmar students around the world.

Comcast or The Worst Internet Provider in the World

Comcast is the worst internet provider in the world. I had to call mechanics for more than 7 times since I got here 7 months ago. As a Myanmar blogger, internet is one of the most important instrument in my daily life. People say United State has the best internet service in the world. That must not be true for Comcast internet. If you are internet users in US, I would highly recommend you not use Comcast.
I don't really know much about internet service in Myanmar. But I am pretty much sure that all Myanmar who get to US will have expectation on US internet service. So make sure you do not choose Comcast. Otherwise, your internet life will still be the same as your internet life in Myanmar.
